Your observation hits close to home. I’ve been running a mid-size platform for a few years now, and the gap between regions is much wider than I expected when I first set things up. In Germany and the Netherlands, people practically refuse to use anything that doesn’t feel “local”—they’ll pick regional bank transfers or localized checkout flows even if the global option is technically faster. Meanwhile, when I started testing in Southeast Asia, users barely wanted to click through bank transfers at all; e-wallets dominated everything, and the abandonment rate dropped only after I made those the default.


A lot of this, from my experience, comes down to trust built over years. People rely on what they see around them—friends, family, everyone using the same method.
