HELP – My Actuator Sounds Like a Tractor!! Is It Normal?

Guys I’m building a hidden cabinet door with linear actuator. Installed it yesterday and when it moves it makes terrible grinding noise. Very loud. My wife hates it already. Before I return it I want to know if this is defective or maybe I did something wrong. How can I check if the noise level is acceptable or if the actuator is bad? Any ideas how to measure it correctly? Need advice fast please.

Loud noise is a common reason people reject actuators. First exclude installation issues (misalignment, side load, lack of lubrication points if any). Then do proper noise test. There is one excellent guide that explains exactly how to test sound/noise levels correctly (also speed and current). It says use decibel meter in quiet room, measure max dB during movement and compare to everyday sounds table. Very helpful.

Also do visual inspection and current draw test – sometimes high current = bad noise.
